Weber State Wins Arizona Tip-Off Desert Division Crown
Champs in the desert. Weber State won two games in Tempe to claim the Desert Division title of the Arizona Tip-Off. The Wildcats beat Pepperdine 68-53 Saturday afternoon at the Mullett Arena for the tournament win.
Saturday’s game was the 100th career game for Wildcat senior Miguel Tomley and it will be a memorable one for him. Tomley scored a season-high 28 points and knocked down six 3-pointers in Saturday’s win. He was also 8 of 8 from the free throw line.
In the two games, he averaged 22 points and knocked down 10 3-pointers. For his performance, he was named the Tournament MVP.
Blaise Threatt was also named to the All-Tournament team and had another strong performance as he finished with 21 points with seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. In a return to his hometown, Threatt averaged 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and 3.5 steals per game in the two wins.
Bowling Green Takes Third in Arizona Tip-Off Desert Division
The Bowling Green State University men’s basketball team topped New Mexico State at the Arizona Tip Off on Saturday (Nov. 30) in exciting fashion.
NMSU led, 60-56, with 1:14 left in regulation, but an and-one by Marcus Johnson pulled BGSU within one. Javontae Campbell added two more at the line to swing the score in the Falcons’ favor. On the defensive end, Derrick Butler swatted away his first block with Bowling Green, securing the win for the Orange and Brown, 61-60.
The win marks the 150th of Todd Simon‘s head coaching career in the collegiate ranks. Bowling Green will now return home for four of their next five contests.
